Community Outreach Liaison 

The Governor’s Commission on Disabilities (GCD) is seeking a Community Outreach Coordinator to assist in our efforts to provide more services to individuals from historically underserved communities.  Under the supervision of the Executive Secretary, the Public Outreach Coordinator assists with the implementation of our Community Outreach Grant.  The GCD will be awarding grants to organizations who work within historically underserved communities to promote disability rights awareness and the GCD’s programs within their community. 

General Responsibilities:

• Assist in publicizing and selecting recipients for the Community Outreach Grant
• Oversee implementation of the grant 
• Train staff at recipient organizations about the GCD and the rights of people with disabilities
• Respond to concerns of recipient organizations.
• Present in the community about the GCD the rights of people with disabilities.
• Attend events to promote the GCD and its programs.
• Oversee the work the recipient organizations are doing to promote the GCD.
• Assist in social media postings.
• Assist in recruitment of student fellows.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work well with office staff and the public. 
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, familiarity with Microsoft Access preferred. 
• Candidates with the ability to communicate in a language in addition to English preferred.
• Ability to travel to recipient sites and to events within the state.

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

• The eligible candidate must have completed high school or equivalent.
• The candidate must have at least one year experience working or volunteering with a human services organization.
